This Wonderful Gift of our Love

O Lord, we thank you for this wonderful gift of our love
which You have generously granted us and which allows us to build a true communion of
persons between us ---provided we remain ever open to You,
the Source of all love.
Help us to continue to love each other and accept each other unconditionally, as we get to
know each other better.
Make us generous in giving and humble in receiving.
Enable us to communicate to one another all our joys, sufferings, and desires and all our
hopes, sorrows, and difficulties.
Give us the power of Your Love that we may forget self and live for each other so that we
may have truly one spirit, in preparation for the time when You will send us children to add
to our union and love.

A Prayer for Couples

Dear God,
Please make of our relationship a great and holy adventure.
May our joining be a sacred space.
May the two of us find rest here, a haven for our souls.
Remove from us any temptation to judge one another or to direct one another.
We surrender to You our conflicts and our burdens.
We know You are our Answer and our rock.
Help us to not forget.
Bring us together in heart and mind as well as body.
Remove from us the temptation to criticize or be cruel.
May we not be tempted by fantasies and projections, but guide us in the ways of holiness.
Save us from darkness.
May this relationship be a burst of light.
May it be a fount of love and wisdom for us, for our family, for our community, for our world.
May this bond be a channel for Your love and healing, a vehicle of Your grace and power.
As lessons come and challenges grow, let us not be tempted to forsake each other.
Let us always remember that in each other we have the most beautiful woman, the most
beautiful man, the strongest one, the sacred one in whose arms we are repaired.
May we remain young in this relationship.
May we grow wise in this relationship.
Bring us what You desire for us, and show us how You would have us be.
Thank you, dear God, You who are the cement between us.
Thank You for this love.

Fall in Love

Nothing is more practical than
finding God, than
falling in Love
in a quite absolute, final way.
What you are in love with,
what seizes your imagination, will affect everything.
It will decide
what will get you out of bed in the morning,
what you do with your evenings,
how you spend your weekends,
what you read, whom you know,
what breaks your heart,
and what amazes you with joy and gratitude.
Fall in Love, stay in love,
and it will decide everything.

- Joseph Whelan, S.J., former provincial of the Maryland Province and American assistant to the superior general

Putting Love into Practice

Love consists in sharing
what one has
and what one is
with those one loves.
Love ought to show itself in deeds
more than in words.

- Ignatius of Loyola

Loving Your Enemies

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be childrenof your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

Spirit & Verse: A Prayer for Living "Fratelli Tutti"

When our lofty words of love have been emptied of their meaning,
When our borders and computer screens have erected impenetrable walls,
When our minds are so quick to conflate "other" with "enemy,"
How will we find our common humanity?
It's never too late to make an earnest and tender start.
May we remove from our pockets the stones we intended to throw
And cement them together to build a home that welcomes all.
May we repent of our indifference and move into genuine encounter.
Instead of drawing battle lines,
May we draw our chairs up to a communal table,
Where we can feast in the knowledge of our shared dignity.
May God grant us the holy vision
To see every human being a sacred mystery,
And may we love each mystery not abstractly, but concretely.
Just as Thomas touched the wounds of Jesus,
May we be unafraid to touch the wounds of our suffering neighbor.
May we lay down our arms and offer our outstretched hands,
Until there is no "them," but only "us,"
Until we are at last, sisters and brothers, all.

Amen.

An Encouraging Prayer for a Friend

Dear Lord,
I pray for my friend right now. I pray that you will help them with the struggles they are going through in this season. For you know exactly what they need in this moment. Draw near to them and let them feel your presence. Open their eyes, ears, and hearts to you. Help them have the discernment to hear your voice as you lead them in their next steps. Speak to them as they read your word and bring verses of encouragement and comfort to their attention. I pray that you will calm any fear or anxiety they may be feeling. Replace it with the confidence to obey your word and to trust you. I pray that your guidance will be clear to them from this day forward. In your name, I pray. Amen.

FAQs

How do you get answers to prayers? ›

Ask. It might sound simple, but we need to ask God for the blessings we need. Jesus taught, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find” (Matthew 7:7). When you are sincerely striving to obey God's commandments, He will give you answers to your prayers, and you will be ready to receive them.

What is the saying about answered prayers? ›

Prayer does not change God, but changes him who prays. When the gods choose to punish us, they merely answer our prayers. More tears are shed over answered prayers than unanswered ones.

What are three prayers to say during financial hardship? ›

You are the God who provides all my needs according to your riches in Glory. I come to You as I am struggling financially, asking for your provision. Remove my fear, doubt, and unbelief. Fill me with Your peace and confidence in the promise of your care for me in time of need.

How do I know God is answering my prayers? ›

In our hearts we will feel the confirmation that He does hear us, a feeling of peace and calm. We can also feel that everything will be fine when we follow the Father's will. If we doubt that He hears us, we ought to seek guidance in the scriptures and then ask if those things we read are true.

What to do when prayers are not answered? ›

Spend time in prayer and meditation, asking him for wisdom and understanding. Remember that God's ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9), and he may have a different plan or timing for your life. Trust God and remember that he knows what's best for you, even when you can't see it.

What is God answers prayer? ›

Isaiah 65:24 says, “And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” Dearly beloved, God answers prayers. This is one of His titles of honour. He is the God that hears prayers, and it is as truly ascribed to Him as mercy or justice is ascribed to Him.

When God answers your prayers differently? ›

God's answers to our prayers are better in every way than our own. He knows what is around every corner, over every hill, and down in every valley. When we trust Him, He takes our breath away with surprises we would have never thought to dream on our own. His plans are impeccable and sometimes incomprehensible.

What makes prayer not to be answered? ›

Simply put, sometimes God doesn't answer our prayers because we are praying for the wrong things. And we may not be doing this out of malice, either, so much as out of ignorance. Perhaps we don't know enough of God's Word to know his will.

What does Jesus say about answering prayers? ›

Jesus says, 'Ask and it will be given to you... For everyone who asks receives' (Matthew 7:7–8). It may seem an obvious point, but the starting point of answered prayer is actually asking. In the case of the request of the blind men, Jesus' response was 'Yes'.

What is the power of answered prayer? ›

Every answered prayer is a gift, packed with the DNA of God and sealed with his fingerprint. It continues, if remembered, to tell of the intricacies of who God is, to reveal his nature, and to declare to the listener what he is like.

What is the powerful prayer when someone owes you money? ›

You might say to God: “Heavenly Father, I lift this person up to you and put this situation in your hands. Please give me wisdom. Please bless this person financially so they will never feel the need to borrow in the future. Your ways are not our ways.

What is a prayer to help you through difficult times? ›

Blessed Jesus, in the comfort of your love, I lay before you the memories that haunt me, the anxieties that perplex me, the despair that frightens me, and my frustration at my inability to think clearly. Help me to discover your forgiveness in my memories and know your peace in my distress.

How do you pray for something you desperately need? ›

It's important to praise God and seek forgiveness for sins before you ask Him to give you what you want. Ask God to work the way He wants. Also, be honest and specific when you ask Him for what you want. Be patient and believe that God will act.

How can God answer everyone's prayers? ›

Therefore, God hears each and all of our specific petitions through the filter of Jesus' role. In other words, God understands all our different requests through the filter of “this will reconcile them; this will make them holy,” and that is the prayer God hears and the request God always grants.
