What does the Bible say about renewal? ›

Ephesians 4:22-24

“To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”

“Spiritual renewal” is the term that Christians often use to describe what happens when God pours out his Spirit on his people, when he is free to work powerfully in and through his people to show the world how real and mighty and good Jesus is. This is what Jesus promised his followers in Acts 1:8 (read and explain).

In fact, the word renew can be defined as "changing into something new and different, something better." That really sums up what renewal in Christ means in that we were remade into something better. For some of us, it may have been quite a struggle to remove the old sinful self and totally renovate our lives.

To be born again is to be quickened by the Spirit and receive a change of heart (see Moses 6:65–66; Mosiah 5:2, 5–7). Our rebirth begins at baptism and is completed when we receive the companionship of the Holy Ghost and are cleansed from sin (see 3 Nephi 12:1–2; Alma 36:24; Mormon 7:10).

Our spirits are renewed at new birth by the Holy Spirit, and our minds are renewed every day as we feed on and apply the word of God. This renewal process translates us from humans to spirits - our bodies remain mortal, but our spirits become immortal - God now lives in us through His Spirit (The Holy Spirit).

How to renew your mind according to the Bible? ›

Simply stated, renewing your mind according to Romans 12:2 means interpreting life through the lens of God's Word and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, rather than through the lens of your experience, woundedness, trauma, preferences, or the opinions of others.

When we renew our minds, we grow. We learn to see things from God's point of view and that changes how we respond to situations and people around us: we grow.

By engaging in prayer, repentance, Scripture study, worship, fasting, accountability, service, forgiveness, thankfulness, resting in God, seeking the Holy Spirit, and self-reflection, Christians can actively pursue spiritual renewal according to the Bible.

Ephesians 4:23 (AMPC) says, Be constantly renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh mental and spiritual attitude]. Every day we need to take time to study the Word so we can purposely think according to what it says.

Renewal is extending the period of deposit or any document, by a few months or years. Revival refers to bringing back to life. If the date of expiry of a document or deposit, is long over without being renewed,it is supposed to be a 'dead' one.
