Need some new keto smoothie ideas? In my keto blueberry smoothie recipe, I used cottage cheese and almond butter for a creamy, dreamy smoothie. This keto berry smoothie uses two other keto-friendly ingredients: blended avocado and light coconut milk.

Vegan and keto diets tend to be thought of as opposite ends of the dietary spectrum. However, this happens to be one option for vegan keto smoothies. It has no animal-based foods and is low in net carbs (11.6 grams per serving).

Making a keto friendly smoothie can be tricky. First of all, we need to make a keto berry smoothie without milk, since dairy milk is high in natural sugars. Second, a keto fruit smoothie needs to include only low carb fruits, which are mostly the berries.

Third, keto berry smoothies need a source of sweetness, but not from natural sugars. This keto mixed berry smoothie recipe uses stevia extract, but you can also use another sugar free sweetener such as monk fruit or erythritol. (Note: if you use a 1:1 sugar free sweetener, you will need to add a lot more.)

  • Cheap: If you’ve been buying the Smoothie King Keto Champ Berry Smoothie, this homemade keto berry smoothie may save money. Though the upfront cost of buying frozen berries may be higher, you can yield many more smoothies.
  • Low Sugar: Since this is a low carb berry smoothie, it is low in sugar from both natural and added sources.
  • Gluten free berry smoothie: This berry smoothie is gluten free, low carb, keto, plant based, vegetarian and vegan. Vegetarian low carb smoothie recipes can feed practically anyone!

Here’s what you need to make the best vegan keto breakfast smoothie:

  • Ripe frozen avocado (chopped)
  • Frozen blueberries
  • Frozen raspberries
  • Light coconut milk (from a can)
  • Stevia extract (powder or liquid)

You are welcome to use a frozen mixed berry blend instead of buying separate types of berries. However, make sure the frozen mixed berries you buy are unsweetened and fit your macros for keto.

My family had no idea there was avocado in this until I told them. Avocado and coconut milk are great options if you want to make a creamy non-dairy smoothie without bananas or dates.

Use peeled and chopped frozen avocado to make your homemade keto smoothie faster. They’re in the freezer aisle of many major grocery stores in the U.S. If you use fresh avocado, make sure it is very soft and ripe before freezing for easier blending.

Frozen avocado blends smoothly in a regular food processor. I didn’t need a high-speed blender to get a smooth smoothie.

Speaking of blending, I recommend using either a food processor or high-speed blender (Thermomix, Nutribullet, Vitamix, etc.) for smoothies. I find that regular blenders don’t do a great job making frozen fruits in smoothies smooth.

Here are the steps for making keto berry smoothies:

  1. Place the strawberries, avocado, blueberries, raspberries, coconut milk, and stevia into a food processor and blend until completely smooth.

  1. Taste the smoothie and add a little more stevia if desired.
  1. Pour the smoothie into tall glasses or wide-mouth mason jars. Garnish with fresh berries and cacao nibs (if you wish). Serve immediately with wide-width straws for easier drinking.

🌡 Vegan Keto Smoothie Storage

This keto berry smoothie cannot be refrigerated, as it will separate and melt. Instead, pour leftovers into popsicle molds, and freeze overnight. Now you can enjoy your keto berry smoothie leftovers as popsicles whenever you wish!

🤔 Vegan Keto Smoothie Variations

This is a keto berry smoothie with coconut milk. You can make this a keto berry smoothie with heavy cream or unsweetened almond milk if you’d prefer. Keep in mind that these changes will impact the nutrition information for the recipe.

Oat milk is not keto-friendly, but could also be used in this recipe. To make a keto berry protein smoothie, use unsweetened soy milk or add protein powder to the coconut milk. Plain Greek yogurt is another way to add protein to smoothies, but you may need more liquid to thin.

Here are some other keto smoothie toppings and keto smoothie add-ins. Use your good judgement regarding what might work with your other ingredients:

💭 Expert Tips from Dietitian Summer Yule

This is a level 3 recipe (weight maintenance and active lifestyles). At over 200 calories per serving, this is a high-calorie snack with a limited amount of filling protein. This recipe may be an excellent option for the person who has trouble eating enough during the day. If you want to make this smoothie even higher in energy, you could substitute the light coconut milk for full-fat.

I don’t typically advise drinking your calories (other than milk) if you have a weight loss goal. However, all of my smoothie recipes use whole blended fruit rather than juice. An argument could be made that they can be viewed as a whole food similar to gazpacho.

If you find it too easy to consume excess calories when you drink smoothies, try freezing your smoothie recipe in popsicle molds. Making ice pops breaks the smoothie into smaller portions that must (generally) be eaten more slowly and mindfully.

As an aside, I don’t recommend combining the vegan diet and keto diet in most cases. The issue is that the combination of the two diets leads to severe food restrictions, which can result in nutrient deficiencies.

Yes, it is possible to get all of the essential nutrients you need on a vegan keto diet. However, some supplementation is required, and most people are not stringent enough with their diets to ensure they’re consistently getting everything they need. For these reasons, I don’t recommend combining vegan and keto without approval, supervision, and advice from a physician or dietitian. Stay safe!
