Welcome to this guided prayer for God’s protection. This prayer has been written to guide you in prayer as you prepare to sleep. Through this prayer you will come before God and offer Him the night that is ahead, along with all the days to come. You will rest in the powerful promises of God’s faithfulness in Scripture and remind your soul of God’s protection that is extended to you each day.
Eternal promises
As you pray through this prayer, you will ask God to surround you with His protection over the coming night. You will declare Scripture over your life and rest afresh in the comforting words of God that are spoken to you. God’s promises of protection, security and love are yours. You can rest in the comfort of God’s eternal promises tonight.
As you prepare to begin this time of prayer, find a quiet place and still your soul. Remind yourself that God is with you right now and that His Holy Spirit is surrounding you. Rest in His embrace and welcome Him now, as you pray through this prayer, either out loud or in your head.
A night prayer for God’s protection
Heavenly Father,
I come before You now and I offer up to You the night that is ahead of me. As I prepare to sleep, I choose to trust in You once again. I rest in Your embrace, Your ongoing love and compassion, Your constant presence that surrounds me both when I am asleep and awake. Remind me now of Your deep love for me. Immerse me in Your presence and surround me with Your Spirit, so that I may rest deeply this evening, knowing that You are with me.
Watch over me as I sleep
God, I thank You that You promise to watch over me as I sleep. Your gaze is ever towards me and Your hand of protection always surrounds me. As I read in Psalm 121:3-6, “He will not let your foot slip – He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you – the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.” God, I thank You that You watch over me now, and I thank You that You will watch over me tonight as I sleep. I praise You for Your faithfulness and Your goodness.
The Lord is my strength and shield
God, I thank You that You promise to protect me at all times. I thank You that You are my shield; the One who protects me from the enemy. You are the God who fights for me. As it says in Psalm 28:7, “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise Him.” God, You are my strength and You are my shield. I trust You as my protector and my defender. You are a God who I can trust fully, through every battle and every storm. I rest in the promise of Your protection this evening, and I remind myself that no harm and no danger is more powerful than the Almighty God.
Promises of protection and refuge
God, tonight I cling to Your promises of protection and refuge. Your protection is ongoing and eternal, surrounding me through every season and circ*mstance. You are my refuge; the one I run to in the storm. You are the one who gives me shelter and peace when I need it most. I declare over my life now the words of Psalm 46:1-3: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”Even when I feel like the earth is giving way before me, I can trust You, knowing that You remain steadfast and true.
God, as I sleep tonight, I pray that You would minister to my heart and restore my soul. Would You draw me ever closer to You and would You bless me with a deep and restful sleep. I choose to trust in You even in the midst of my challenging circ*mstances. And I choose to lay my life down at Your feet once more. May You remove from me any fear, anxiety and stress, and may You remind me and reassure me of Your protection this evening. I pray, Lord, that You would give me a peaceful and restful sleep this evening.
God, I trust in Your promises. I rest in Your presence.

Resting in the promises of God
So, as you turn from your time of prayer to the night ahead, may you be built up by the promises of Scripture and may you be blessed by the ongoing presence of the Holy Spirit, who is with you now. Let God remind you tonight of your identity as a child in His family. And let the words of Scripture that we have read this evening draw you to a place of deep relaxation and rest. May God usher you into a deep sleep tonight as you seek Him from a place of surrender.
He promises to you that He is your shield, your defender, your refuge and your strength. He promises to protect you at all times, to fight on your behalf, and to surround you through every challenging circ*mstance. And God promises to give you hope even when you feel most hopeless. For the God we serve is a good and powerful God who holds each of us in His hands. He is holding you now, and you can trust Him completely.
As you conclude this time of prayer, rest fully this evening in God’s embrace. And be reminded of His ongoing love, grace and mercy, which is yours today.
